Orlando Alarm Monitoring Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need an alarm permit for a home security system in Orlando, Florida?

Yes. Within the City of Orlando or Orange County, monitored security systems must be registered. City residents register with the Orlando Police Department (OPD) False Alarm Tracking System within 30 days of installation; residents in unincorporated Orange County register with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO). Failing to register can result in false-alarm fines, and emergency dispatch may be delayed if no permit is on file.

What does an alarm monitoring system cost in Orlando?

Installation typically runs from $1,000 to $5,000 upfront for standard wireless packages, while comprehensive hardwired systems for larger homes range from $5,000 to $10,00 or more, depending on the number of sensors, glass-break detectors, and cameras. Monthly monitoring generally costs $30 to $60, depending on whether you choose standard cellular monitoring or smart-home-integrated monitoring.

Can I get a home insurance discount for a monitored alarm in Central Florida?

Yes. Most Florida homeowners insurers offer premium discounts of 5–20% for a professionally monitored alarm system. To qualify for the maximum discount, the system must include 24/7 central-station monitoring for both burglary and fire/smoke. On completion, we provide a Certificate of Alarm Monitoring to submit to your insurance agent.

How do security systems handle power outages during hurricanes?

Our installations include a battery backup that keeps the alarm panel operational for about 24 hours during an outage. We also use dedicated cellular monitoring rather than Wi-Fi or a landline, so even if power and internet go down during a major storm, your system keeps a direct line to our 24/7 central monitoring station.

Can you monitor my existing security system, or do I need new equipment?

In most cases we can take over your existing system without all-new hardware. Our technicians can reprogram or upgrade major panels such as Honeywell, DSC, 2GIG, or Qolsys. If your system relies on an outdated 3G cellular network or a landline, a simple upgrade to a modern LTE cellular communicator brings it up to date.

Why is my alarm panel showing a “Low Battery” alert?

A low-battery warning means the backup battery is draining or needs replacement, which commonly happens after a prolonged outage or when the battery is more than three to five years old. First confirm your home’s power is restored and the panel is plugged in, then allow up to 24 hours for the battery to recharge. If the warning persists, the battery has lost capacity and needs a standard 12V sealed lead-acid or lithium replacement.

How do I test that my alarm is communicating with the monitoring station?

Test your system monthly, and follow these steps to avoid an accidental dispatch: call our central monitoring station and ask to place your account in “Test Mode”; arm the system as if leaving; trigger an alarm by opening a protected door or passing a motion sensor and let the siren sound at least 30 seconds; disarm with your master code; then call the station back to confirm they received the signal and to take your account out of Test Mode.

What should I do if I accidentally set off my alarm?

Don’t panic — the panel waits a brief delay before transmitting. Enter your valid master code at the keypad to silence the siren and cancel the transmission. Keep your phone handy; if the signal already went out, our operator will call your primary number, and you’ll state your verbal password to cancel the dispatch. Do not call 911 to cancel a false alarm.

Why is my security camera offline or dropping from the app?

Cameras usually drop offline because of a network or power disruption rather than a fault in the security system. Confirm your internet works on other devices and make sure your camera viewing app is up to date. Sometimes you can get logged out and it requires a re-login. Other causes could be a camera(s) gets deselected from the camera menu.

How do I update my emergency contacts or safe words?

For security, emergency contact lists and verbal passwords cannot be changed at the keypad. Log into your secure customer portal or app and go to “Account Management,” or call our support office directly — you’ll need to provide your current master verbal password to verify your identity before any changes to your call list or dispatch protocols are saved.
